Queen of Tarts Information
Gutting the interior of a double storey corner building, Tina Bester created a home on the one side and Queen of Tarts on the other. Tina left the magazine styling business to open up this corner shop in Observatory. She got her inspiration from a trip to Paris when she experienced all the patisseries with their many and colourful tarts.
Tina has adorned her shop with the many vintage and antique items she collected over the years. These include her grandmother’s old blender and Royal Baking Powder tins and her mother’s scale and bread slicer.
On the back wall, a collection of old cookbooks are displayed with old enamel ladles, egg poachers and utensils on the other walls. The interior is painted a calm french blue and white that sets of the many colours of the tarts.
The menu is displayed on a small black board that changes regularly, however the favourites are always available. These include pear and almond tarts, chocolate tarts and fairy cakes. There are several savoury items on the menu as well and guest can choose between various salads and sandwiches with ingredients like grilled aubergine, pesto and red pepper. During the winter months Queen of Tarts also serves delicious soups and homemade chicken and mushroom pies.
